Where to go? Alaska is huge and has so many things to do that just narrowing down the options can be a tough task. If you don’t have the time to do the homework, getting a local expert can be a wise investment. Guided tours help you get the most out of your limited holiday time. You probably don’t want to spend your valuable vacation days shopping for food in Anchorage or trying to find a trail to hike. Many companies offer guided trips with various levels of challenge and “roughing it. Just a few are listed on this site. Some operators can also help you set up a custom trip for just you and your family or friends. Or you can organize things yourself. With a bit of time on the internet and the phone you can book a B&B, set up a day of ice climbing and plan a raft trip. Just be aware that Alaska can be very busy during peak season and it can be a little challenging to get everything set up according to your ideal schedule. Denali National Park ~ One of the best parks in the country and Alaska’s top “attraction”. Riding the bus into the park is a great opportunity to look for grizzly bear, caribou, moose and wolf. Exposure offers Eco Tours that include Denali. Denali Outdoor Center offers whitewater and mountain bike adventures. |

Prince William Sound ~ Lush rainforest, glaciers, waterfalls and wildlife combine to make the Sound a spectacular destination. Sea-kayaking is a great way to explore the area. Book a trip with Exposure or rent kayaks from Prince William Sound Kayak Center. Contact Lazy Otter for charter trips and kayak shuttles.

Talkeetna ~ A nice stopping point on the way to Denali, this historic town looks like Alaska. Stay at the Roadhouse and enjoy the nightlife at the Fairview Inn. Alaska Wilderness Journeys offers multi-day raft trips. Talkeetna is the jumping off point for serious Alaska mountaineering; but if you just want to have a look at McKinley up close, Talkeetna Air Taxi offers a range of flight seeing options. |
